Confirm the plan with your installer
Before moving anything, ask which rooms and outside areas need to be accessible. Confirm the arrival arrangements, the planned openings and who to contact if access changes. The right preparation depends on the project; use this checklist as a conversation starter rather than a substitute for your installer's instructions.
Clear the agreed working areas
Move fragile belongings and furniture out of the agreed work area. Ask what to do with blinds, curtains and other window coverings before removing them. Point out anything fixed in place or difficult to move so the team can plan around it. Make a clear route through the home and discuss where materials can be placed.
Plan for people and pets
Tell the installer about mobility needs, home-working arrangements and rooms that need special consideration. Arrange a suitable separate area for pets and keep children away from active work areas. If access depends on a gate, shared driveway or another household member, settle those arrangements in advance.
Agree how questions will be handled
Choose a contact who can respond if an unexpected condition is discovered. Ask how additional work would be explained and approved before it proceeds. Keep the agreed specification available so questions about trim, opening style or hardware can be checked against the written scope.
Finish with a walkthrough
Ask the installer to demonstrate operation and discuss care instructions. Review the agreed finishing and cleanup, and note any outstanding items together. Keep invoices, product information and warranty contacts in one place. Planning a project? Read our quote-comparison guide, explore window installation, or request a free estimate.
