Describe the whole entrance
Start with photos of the entrance from inside and outside. Note whether the project includes only a single door, a door with sidelights or a larger entrance assembly. Tell the estimator what you want to improve: appearance, operation, comfort or a combination of these. A photograph is useful for a first conversation, but final ordering dimensions need to be checked on site.
Compare complete specifications
Ask each supplier to identify the proposed door, frame, glass and hardware. Record which finish is supplied and whether painting or staining is your responsibility. If you have existing hardware you want to retain, mention it before the estimate is finalized; do not assume it will suit a new door. Ask how the proposed design will work with the available entrance space.
Put finishing in writing
A clear estimate should say what happens to the interior casing, exterior trim and threshold. Ask about removal and disposal, cleanup and how any concealed damage would be handled. Keep these questions separate from the product choice: an appealing door photograph does not describe the installation work included in the price.
Plan the installation day
Discuss access, parking and how the entrance will be managed while work is underway. Mention pets, mobility needs and whether this is your only practical entrance. Confirm the expected schedule with the installer once products and site conditions are known. Keep the final product details and warranty paperwork together for future service.
Bring a short priority list
